I am Michael Balcos, and you’ve reached my blog.
Currently, I’m a Filipino student taking up BS Computer Science. My current location is in Quezon City, the Philippines. Some of my interests are Slackware Linux, Free and Open Source Software(F/OSS), technology, web publishing, non-linear video editing, baking, reading(I’m glad to be back at it again, thanks to my sister), model railroads in HO, and classical music.
You can e-mail me at mikebalcos2007(a)yahoo.com.ph . Please change the “(a)” to “@”.
Here’s a few snippets about me:
Some books I’ve read: A Tale of Two Cities, Les Miserables(abridged), Viajero, Mass, Black Beauty, The World’s Greatest Salesman I and II
My favorite theme for fiction books: resurrection
Book I’m currently reading: “Globalization and its Discontents” by Stiglitz
My favorite selection of music: Compositions by Tchaikovsky, Chopin and Beethoven, Crazy for You (the Broadway musical with Gershwin’s music), Paul Anka’s “My Way” (don’t shoot me!), The Impossible Dream from The Man of Lamancha, Summerwind, The Nearness of You, You’ll Never Walk Alone, Blowing in the Wind, Puff, Where have all the Flowers Gone, Bayan Ko (I bet you’ll find it odd that its in my playlist), and more (if you think I’m not inclined to rock, my dad teases me that the only rock I liked in my childhood was “Jesus Christ: Superstar”)
My favorite movies: Das Boot(probably the most historically accurate film I have ever seen!), Gettysburg, The Guns from Navarrone, Dr. Zhivago, Star Wars IV-VI
People I admire: Fmr. Senate President Jovito Salonga (I’ll read his autobiography after I finish Stiglitz’s book), Evelio Javier, Sr. Esperanza Quirino, Joshua Chamberlain, Ludwig van Beethoven, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Frederic Chopin, George Gershwin
One of my favorite philosophies: Keep it simple, stupid!
Tendencies: Liberal, singleness of purpose, sometimes doesn’t conform(eg: believes that globalization has failed and the economics of it have to be rethought)
